Schattengaenge

Schattengänge was composed in early 2018 on behalf of the German Music Council. The piece has been compulsory piece in the German Orchestra Competition in 2020 as well as in the preliminary competitions in 2019. The composer writes: as the German Orchestra Competition takes place in the Beethoven year 2020 (250th birthday of the great composer), the composition will have a " strong connection to Beethoven ". The 2nd movement of Beethoven's 7th Symphony served as a template for the composition. I would call my work a musical attempt on this famous symphony movement. The musical spectrum ranges from quotes about thamatic / harmonic alienation (the shadows in which I move) to some freely composed additions.
